The way I got into Young Living was really quite interesting. I had called up Doug Mills to pitch him into a Phone Card program that I was working.… It sounded like a good business opportunity, and I thought I'd check it out. But, Doug said some magical words to me.
I wasn't really that into the product; and, when I phoned up Doug and asked him what he was doing, he told me, "Mike, you know what? Your program is in your head, not in your heart. And, to be successful in MLM, you need to have a product that people are emotionally attached to." That was a real powerful statement.
So, I asked Doug if he'd forward me some information, and he told me that he had a tape called The Missing Link.
When I got the tape, I took it with me on a sales trip I had to make. That day, I think I listened to that tape four times. It really had a lot of impact on me. But, the proof had to be in the pudding; so, I ordered an Essential 7 Kit.
When the oils arrived, my wife was trying to recover from having her wisdom teeth removed. She had developed dry socket, and was in so much pain, she couldn't even lift her head off her pillow. And, we were supposed to have company that night.
She asked me to get her some Advil®; but I suggested that, before she resorted to the Advil®, she give the pain-relieving blend a try.
I had no idea what I was doing. When I opened the Kit, it was the first whiff I'd ever had of an essential oil. But I splashed some pain-relieving blend on the palm of my hand and rubbed it on the back of her neck, and told her to just lay there while I got a shower, and then, tell me how she felt. Twenty minutes later, when I came back downstairs, she was up, working in the kitchen. I asked her, "How do you feel?" And she said, "I don't know what that stuff was, but it's incredible! I don't feel a bit of pain."
So, I said to myself, "Wow! I must be on to something."
So, I phoned up Doug, and he got me started in this business.
Now, I owned my own business; and, as anyone who has a business can tell you, you really don't own your business. Your business owns you. And so, I liked the idea of network marketing, because of the residual income, where you can work — and work hard — for a little while, and it will pay off for the rest of your life. But, you need a product that you can believe in, that will help you create residual income. And, this product was the best I'd seen in natural health, and I'd been involved with these kinds of products for 16 years.
This business has had quite an impact on me. It's really changed my life. Right now, I make more money than most corporate executives, and I only work this business part-time. And, I'm happy to say, that I'm selling my full-time business and will be doing Young Living full-time.

I was just introduced to essential oils in July. I was in a natural food store here, and happened to mention that my husband had a pain in his shoulder. I was given some pain-relieving blend, and it worked. It really turned me on.
I got an Essential 7 Kit and was having fun with that, when I went to a one-day workshop with von Harding. I came away from there all on fire. I did whatever I could to learn more about the oils.
In December, I did my first RainDrop Technique on my son. He had been diagnosed 20 years before as an insulin-dependent diabetic. By this time, the circulation in his legs and feet was quite bad, and he had a discoloration to his skin from the knees down. It was sort of a rusty color. He had also developed some sort of an ugly growth on the side of his big toe.
In our ignorance, we really weren't sure what to begin working with, but he started putting the glandular blend around his ankles and the Marseilles blend on his toe. When he went to his doctor in early February, the growth on his toe was completely gone, the color was back to normal on his legs, and the doctor said his circulation was greatly improved. This was pretty exciting.
On the first of March, I went to Scottsdale. I came home really excited. And just a few days ago, I returned from a trip to Egypt with Gary Young. It was an amazing two weeks for me. I had been to Egypt before; but this time, I went with a very different understanding.
Even though I had never really expected to make a business with the oils, my excitement and enthusiasm about the oils has led me to share them with others, and a business is starting to develop. I'm starting to receive some checks that are substantial enough that I'm happy with them. I find that exciting, as well.

I've been with Young Living for two and half years, and absolutely love the company and love the products.
I had received a fax about Young Living, but was very skeptical. However, I did send off for some information about it, and received The Missing Link tape. When the tape arrived, I listened to it three times that first evening. I felt there was really something to the oils, and ordered the Essential 7 Kit.
At that time, I had a respiratory problem that I'd been battling for about six months. When I received my Essential 7 Kit, I really didn't know what to do. I also had a Desk Reference, and listened to the tape I received with it. I used peppermint, inhaling it and putting it on my chest; and, within five days, my respiratory problem was gone. So, I was pretty well sold.
My son plays college basketball. He uses these products as his secret weapon. He uses PowerMeal™, the super energy tincture (which is no long available), the pain-relieving blend for his injuries. The coach cannot believe his endurance. He just pushes to the max. And, no one can understand how he recovers from major injuries.
So the whole family is sold on it.
After two and a half years, we've been very blessed to have a decent income from this business.

I was introduced to Young Living in February 1997. I was mailed The Missing Link tape by one of my brothers. He sent it, and suggested that I order the Essential 7 Kit.
At that time, I was working 10-hour days at a full-time job, in a very stressful environment, and I had developed a very serious health problem.
But, I was so intrigued with what I heard, and I was so anxious to get well, that I talked with Young Living and flew to Seattle, where Gary was going to be speaking. I attended a one-day seminar of his, and I literally sat on the edge of my seat the whole time. It was totally unbelievable for me.
So, I went to work on my body first. I used the triple cleanser set and cleaned out my system; I used the hepatic clearing supplement to clean out my liver; I started using the thyroid support supplement and myrtle oil to support my thyroid. Six months later, I was totally medicine-free.
A year later, after attending many of Gary's seminars, I finally got smart enough to go after what was causing those symptoms. I was determined to have my thyroid work on its own, without drugs or supplements. So, I started using the pH balancing supplement to get my pH in check; I used the immunity gel (which is no longer available) and oregano to get rid of candida in my body, and I used the probiotic supplement as a mainstay to keep that in check. And, I'm happy to say, that today, I don't even use the thyroid support supplement, except when I'm lacking sleep and feeling a bit sluggish.
I actively do the business. One year ago, I was able to quit my full-time job; and, this month, I qualified as Premiere Star Executive, and my new car is parked in my driveway. I really don't have any special skills. It's just about sharing information and building relationships.
One way I teach people to keep their business rolling is: Everyone I bring into the business, I tell them that I'll mail out fifty packets, at my cost, to their warm market. If you can keep working your business in a warm market, you'll be very successful.
What has it done for my family? I have an eight year old, and he loves to have his mom here in the morning when he goes to school, and he loves to have her pick him up in our brand new vehicle.

I was introduced to Young Living at a health show where Gary was speaking. I hadn't been interested in aromatherapy before this; but, when I smelled the oils, and watched people smelling the oils, and watched what it did with their energy, I was very excited to see how pure these oils were. And, for the first time, I understood what aromatherapy could do.
So I joined the company, and before the end of the day, I was working in their booth, helping people to sign up.
I work with someone during the days, and she came down with a terrible case of flu; but, she kept coming to work. Because of the way we usually worked together, what she gets, I get, and what I get, she gets. I was determined this wasn't going to happen this time; so, every time I would start to cough, I'd take some oregano and rub it on my thymus; and immediately, the cough would go away. I never got the flu.
In working with people, I find that the less said, the better. Just explain things very lightly, and then wait; people will often ask you for more information. Once they ask, then you can give them The Missing Link tape and some brochures; and, since they asked for it, they will listen to it.
I have also found that the emotional oils work wonders for the people I counsel. I haven't seen anyone yet that, when they smelled the oil of gladness blend, didn't break out into a big grin. It doesn't seem to matter what kind of mood they were in; when they walked up to me, if they smell the oil of gladness blend, they always smile. It's wonderful. And, it's a genuine, childlike smile. And, a lot of people I've worked with in my counseling have used the oil of gladness to get them through some really rough spots.
My business is doing very well. One of my dreams has always been to own my own home. And now, I do, thanks to the income from this business.

I've been networking for about 15 years, and I've always gravitated toward the best set of products I could find. I knew that this was the secret to a successful business.
My interest was always in the more natural products. In fact, I was selling an algae product, and sent some to Doug Mills. He called be back and asked if I knew what was happening with essential oils.
I had no idea what essential oils were; but, he asked if I would be interested in listening to a tape, and sent me The Missing Link tape. I listened to that tape about a dozen times, and then called Doug.
I thought Gary Young was a little wacky, at first, because of some of the statements on the tape. Doug slowed me down and showed me where it was documented; and, over a period of several weeks, I eventually decided to go ahead and get started, and assume that all the lights were green. Two years later, all the lights are indeed still green.
Everything I was told came to pass. The people, the company and the oils: it's all documented, it's all a matter of record. It's been mainstream in France for 20 years. It's just new in this country.
From a marketing perspective, I like this company, because there was no competition. No one else is doing what we're doing with the oils.
One of the first and most important things in my mind, however, was to establish that these products were working and doing the job. And, within the first week, I'd gotten three rather dramatic testimonials.
The first one came about the second night. We had the ravensara immunity blend and the respriatory blend in the diffuser. I had my wife diffuse those oils because I was about a day away from going to the doctor with a bronchial problem that had gotten worse and worse, probably from a virus. I just breathed in the oils, and in about a minute or two, I coughed up a bunch of stuff.
So we tried the oils for other things. My son, using oregano on his feet, has beaten about every cold or virus he's had.
Using the pH balancing supplement and the digestive blend, I no longer need Prilosec®. I no longer need a cortisone spray to hold down the drainage and post-nasal drip. I use peppermint for that.
I've got hundreds of testimonials from my customers, at this point.
What do I do out in the field? Right now, I work exclusively with postcards and The Missing Link tape. The postcard is something that elicits The Missing Link tape, and The Missing Link tape is our presentation. When people listen to that, a percentage of them ask for more information, and we pursue it from there.
As for earnings, I've been in the black every month I've been in the business. I've had all of my own products paid for from the very first month. And right now, I'm making a little more than half of what I've been making at my full-time job after 21 years. Within the next year or two, we'll probably have the option to retire early.

When I listened to The Missing Link tape, I called the guy who gave it to me and said, "If this is true, this is going to be one of the biggest companies in Multi Level Marketing that there ever was. If we can get people to believe the tape."
When I first got my oils, I was a sickly type person. Ten feet away, if somebody would cough, the next day I'd be down sick. Well, it's been two and a half years now, and I haven't had a cold or the flu — nothing — for that length of time. And, neither has anybody in my family.
I used to get a lot of stress headaches. So, I carry around with me a bottle of peppermint, and just rub a couple of drops of this oil on my fingers and rub it across my forehead and temples, and in thirty seconds, it's gone. Just gone.
That's just the tip of the iceberg. I've had emphysema and asthma and heart conditions, and all this stuff; and all of that stuff is now completely disappeared. I think Gary Young is a genius, and I don't know why someone didn't come up with all of these ideas years ago.
I do make a nice income with Young Living; but, the health is more important to me. When I go around and see somebody sick, I just have to go running up to them and say, "You've got to try this, because this is going to change your life." I'm very emotional about this. It's been two and half years, and I'm still emotional about it.
I talk to people every night on the telephone, and they tell me how wonderful the oils are. That just carries me on, and I feel so glad to be a part of such a wonderful thing. Helping people is real important to me.
It's hard work sometimes; but, it's really worth it. I feel that one person can make a difference; and, I'm that one person and I'm making a difference.

I received a copy of The Missing Link tape in August of 1996. I had been talking with a friend of mine a week or so prior to that, and I was sniffling on the phone. He asked me if I had a cold. I said, "No, it's just my allergies. Typical thing in the summertime." And, he said, "Well, I've got something that might help you. I've got a tape I can send."
I listened to the tape and was charged up with what I heard. I said, "Wow! If half of this stuff is true, it's going to solve a lot of problems that we have." And, since I live on a farm in a very rural part of America, without many income opportunities (a $5.00 per hour job is pretty good here), I was always looking for an income vehicle that could help.
My wife had headaches for the 20 years that I've known her, and they've really bothered a lot. And, it said on The Missing Link tape that you can breath the lavender oil and knock out headaches; we couldn't believe it.
Now, I've been involved with literally dozens of nutritional companies in network marketing over the last decade or so. My wife has never supported anything I've done with these; so, it was pretty hard for me to get her to even go along with me. But, I kind of forced her to listen to the tape (we were driving to her folks' house when I plugged it in, and she didn't have a choice but to listen to it). At the end, she said, "Would you get me some of that stuff?" And, I just about went off the road.
I couldn't believe it.
So, I got the Essential 7 Kit, and low and behold, all she did was breath in the lavender oil, and it knocked out her headaches, so we had to make sure that she had a bottle at home and a bottle at work, so she could take care of it. And, if she didn't have the lavender oil, she would get them again because of all the indoor air pollution where she worked and sitting by computers and other kinds of electronic gadgets. Plus all the stress.
I immediately started marketing, even before I got my Essential 7 Kit. And, what I like to do is do a little market survey, so I had my sponsor send out some tapes to a few people, just to see what they thought of it. I wasn't even in the company yet, but I wanted some feedback.
And, I worked the business real hard for about three months, because I had to go full-time in January to work in my greenhouse. I was a sole proprietor at the time. I had gotten rid of all of my employees because of the hassles of that, and I was doing it all myself. So, in January, I had to start working 10 hours a day, seven days a week, and didn't have any time to do the business. And, when I delivered my flowers in May, I had a five-figure check. I showed this to the guy I delivered my flowers and vegetables to, and I said, "Dan, I don't think I can afford to deliver you flowers next spring." And he looked at me and said, "Why, Doug?" And I said, "Well, check this out. I've got to work this business." I was earning a six-figure income in nine months, and I didn't even work the business two thirds of the time.
So, I've transcended at this point in time beyond working for money. My mission is just to help the people who are in my organization, because this is beyond money; it's about touching people's lives in a very positive way, giving them hope with the dozens and hundreds of maladies that we have. So, it's been a real blessing for us.
