Blue cypress oil is steam distilled from the leaves and wood of the Callitris intratropica tree.  It is native to Australia (Northern Territory, Western Australia and Queensland), and belongs to the Cupressaceae botanical family.  It is grown on large plantations by the Tiwi people. 

It takes 20 years for the Callitris intratropica tree to mature, and it can live as long as 300 years.  At maturity, the trees reach about 82 feet in height, with branches spreading to 33 feet.  Once the Callitris intratropica tree is harvested, it does not regrow.
