Peppermint (Mentha piperita) Oil from Young Living Essential Oils
Improved digestion and mental clarity
Peppermint oil has a strong, clean, fresh, minty aroma that has several interesting benefits. When inhaled, it can:
- improve the senses of taste and smell;
- improve concentration and mental accuracy;
- directly affect the brain's satiety center, helping you to feel more satisfied after a meal.
There have been numerous scientific studies on peppermint oil's role in these areas.
Peppermint oil is also one of the oldest and most highly regarded herb oils for soothing digestion. It may also improve gastric motility and digestive efficiency, and has positive effects on the liver and respiratory systems.
15 ml bottle.
About peppermint oil:
In addition to peppermint (mentha piperita) oil's historically distinguished position as an herb for soothing digestion, it has also been the subject of numerous scientific studies:
- Dr. Jean Valnet, M.D. has studied its effect on the liver and respiratory system.
- Other research has been done on peppermint's ability to affect impaired taste and smell when inhaled.
- Dr. William N. Dember, of the University of Cincinnati, studied peppermint oil's ability to improve concentration and mental accuracy. When it was diffused into the room, students scored a 28% improvement in memory and mental accuracy.
- Dr. Alan Hirsch, M.D. studied peppermint oil's ability to directly affect the brain's satiety center, which triggers a sensation of fullness after meals.
How to use: Diffuse with a cold-air diffuser. Massage on the stomach or add to purified water or tea, to support normal digestion. Apply to bottom of feet to cool off on a hot day. Rub on the temples for a calming effect, or place a few drops on the tongue as an invigorating pick-me-up. (Note: Allow the oil dissolve on the tongue before swallowing.) Use as a flavoring or preservative, and as part of the RainDrop Technique.
Caution: Avoid contact with eyes, mucus membranes or sensitive skin areas. Do not apply neat (i.e.: undiluted) to a fresh wound or burn.
My experience with peppermint oil:
Peppermint oil is one of my favorite essential oils, with a clean, crisp, minty fragrance, and a taste that will really wake up your taste buds.
I use peppermint oil every day in my drinking water: one or two drops to a liter of water. (I either re-use my bottled water jugs or use nalgene jug, putting in my own purified water. I like these jugs because, with their screw-down caps, I can give the jug a good shake before drinking, to make sure the oil is dispersed well.)
