The Essential Oils Integrative Medical Guide
The ultimate guide to the use of essential oils in medicinal aromatherapy

The Essential Oils Integrative Medical Guidewas written by D. Gary Young, one of the world's most respected authorities on the healing value of essential oils. It is an invaluable reference on therapeutic-grade essential oils and their use in medicinal aromatherapy / aromatology. In this 608 page book, taken from Gary's clinical research, you will find a wealth of information about essential oils, aromatology and other health information on alternative health care vital to your optimal health.
Between its release in February of 2003 and the Essential Oils Desk Reference, 3rd Edition update in March 2004, I made almost daily reference to the Integrative Medical Guide. I found it to take the information of the earlier editions of the Desk Reference to a whole new, and amazingly powerful level (although for most common health issues, I still go to the Desk Reference first).
A generic Desk Reference
In many ways, the Essential Oils Integrative Medical Guide is a "generic" version of the Essential Oils Desk Reference, 3rd Edition. They contain much of the same information, with the Essential Oils Integrative Medical Guide presenting it in a non-Young Living Essential Oils-specific format.
However, with the March 2004 update of the Desk Reference, 3rd Edition, the wealth of information previously found only in the Integrative Medical Guide (see the graphic below) is now included, so you can now get the amazing benefits of the Integrative Medical Guide in a Young Living-specific format.
Advantages of the Integrative Medical Guide
The main advantage of the Integrative Medical Guide, compared with the Desk Reference, 3rd Edition, is the section on making your own essential oil blends (recipes for, say, the Energy Balancing Blend or the Mood Elevating Blend). These are very similar to blends offered by Young Living, but with some enhancements — like kicked-up versions of the Young Living Essential Oils blends.
When it was first released, the Integrative Medical Guide also offered a more detailed Application Methods & Reference Guide (see graphic below) than was available in the Desk Reference, 3rd Edition, which includes information on how to take the oils in capsules. Truly amazing. (This information was added to the Desk Reference, 3rd Edition with its March 2004 printing, and is updated and expanded in the 4th Edition.)
My personal recommendation:
For the average user of Young Living Essential Oils, the Desk Reference would be the better option. But, if you have a good source of truly therapeutic-grade essential oils other than Young Living (and if you do, please let me know), this would make a great addition to your aromatherapy work.
The Essential Oils Integrative Medical Guide is 608 pages, in a 6" X 9" format, hardcover.

In July 2002, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy G Thompson told an American Medical Association gathering, "We are dealing with a system of healthcare delivery that is, at its root, dysfunctional." U.S. healthcare expenditures for 2002 are projected to reach $1.5 tillion, yet a survey of the health status of people from 175 nations placed the United States 17th in the rankings. It is an expensive lesson for us to learn, but spending money does not guarantee health.
In the midst of this gloomy outlook is one bright ray of hope. D. Gary Young . . . has opened a new door to better health using a long-forgotten natural medicine: therapeutic-grade essential oils. . . .
A growing number of healthcare professionals, from MDs to chiropractors to naturopaths, are finding their way to essential oils. Not only is there a long history of usage of these oils, but a growing body of new medical research is confirming their powers. . . .
I am pleased to recommend this essential oil book to all health-minded people, be they medical professionals or simply consumers seeking a more natural means of healthcare.
