A New Creature in Christ

It presents the amazing truth — so central to the gospel of Christ — that even as Christ was raised from the dead, we too are raised in newness of life in Him. By His resurrection life implanted within us, we too are made alive in Him. Old things are passed away; behold, all things are new.
Testing to see if we are in the faith
When I consider the amazing truth that, for all who are born of the Spirit, everything really is new, I feel alternately encouraged or challenged, depending on what is evident in my life.
- Does my life — right now — truly demonstrate this truth as a present reality in the nitty-gritty of life?
- If this truth is not seen in me — so others can tell that I've been changed — what is standing in the way with my relationship with the Lord? What is there of sin and/or self that I need to die to? Or have I just been going on my way, being choked by a love of the world (Luke 8:14; 1 John 2:15, James 4:4)?
I guess, to me, the point of Paul's words to the Corinthians was that the Christ "who is not weak toward you, but mighty in you" (2 Corinthians 13:3) produces in His people a life that can be empiracally tested (2 Corinthians 13:5). There is a danger in assuming that we are in Christ, that we have passed the test, on the basis of our belief alone. Paul did not say, "Ponder about whether or not you believe right doctrine about salvation"; that is, whether or not you have faith in Christ, or right the belief system. He exhorted us to determine, by objective testing, if we were in the faith — actually in Christ. We can know this by the Lord's active presence in us, working mightily to make us new creatures.
