The resurrection in the gospel
The gospel is far more than simply that God loves us, however much that is true. It is more than simply that our sins are forgiven, however much that is true. The resurrection of Christ promises more than that He will raise us up one day, although that is a glorious hope.
The gospel means that, in Christ, we have died to sin and the old man (this body of sin and death), and are raised with Christ in newness of life, quickened by the Holy Spirit who indwells us, so that we might walk according to the Spirit in righteousness.
In Ephesians 1:17-20, Paul prayed that we would be given:
a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of [Christ]; … that the eyes of [our] heart may be enlightened, so that [we] may know what is the hope of [Christ's] calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. … things in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead.
We must not settle for a faith of words; our faith is rooted in "Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us" (Eph. 3:20). And, if there is no evidence of this power, can we claim to be in Christ?
